Game design

Following are a few details about the planned game design for Forever War.


The gameplay is very much borrowed from NetHack, just in real-time as an FPS. This means:
  • The world is randomly generated every game
  • If you die, you stay dead
  • If you are dead, your score is entered into a highscore list (the graveyard)
Much of the game is about exploring the world, identifying the items you have found and using them in creative ways to fight your enemies. You get experience points for every killed enemy and ascend in levels like in an RPG.

The game world is divided into levels. You start at the highest level and your aim is to descend to the lowest one, install a bomb there and reach the exit at level 1 again before it detonates.
